Croydon begin 2021/22 squad announcements

Croydon FC have begun to name the members of their 2021/22 First Division squad.

Manager Liam Giles is keen to achieve promotion this season and has brought in several new faces to help him achieve it.

First to be announced is Goalkeeper Nic Taylor, a Montserrat international who recently kept a clean sheet in their World Cup qualifier win against British Virgin Islands. Giles described him as “A top keeper with unreal pedigree and experience,” While Taylor said he was “buzzing to get on board with the trams,” who are his home town club.

Centre-Back Taylor Maddock is the next man through the Croydon entrance. Taylor has won promotion from Step 6 a three times and can count AFC Croydon, Banstead and Uckfield Town among his former clubs. “Very happy with adding another serial winner to the group. A top player who will add so much to the squad,” said the Trams boss.

After a brief spell away from the club Richard Pingling is back at Croydon. The front man has had spells at AFC Wimbledon, Merstham and Horley Town while Giles is “impressed with his attitude and application” plus added, “I’ve never seen him so fit.”

Tim Beckford could well be the key signing for Croydon this season. ‘Tower’ was on course for the Golden Boot when Covid cut the season short in 2019/20 and after a short spell at Erith & Belvedere last term he will be itching to get back on the pitch and among the goals in 2021/22. “He brings not only goals but is an experienced, hard working player, who leads from the front,” Giles remarked.

Recent signings have also included midfielder Gavin Quintyne, centre-forward Jason Kaate, central midfielder Nathan Oliver and winger Darren Titre-Wilson.

In the few days before the season kicks off Croydon have also made these announcements;

“We are delighted to welcome AJ Morrison to Croydon. AJ is an exciting full back who has plenty of experience and will add real quality to the squad. His former clubs include East Grinstead Town, Banstead Athletic and Cobham just to name a few.”

“We are delighted to welcome central midfield player Aidan Lopeman to Croydon. Aidan was part of Sutton United’s U18’s last season where he played a part in Sutton’s FA Cup run which ended at the hands of Liverpool.”

Croydon are shaping up as real contenders for this Division. Keep an eye on their Socials for more player updates.
