Saturday 2nd April – Premier Division
Sheppey United have opened up a 5 point gap over Chatham Town following their impressive win against Deal Town and ‘Chats’ draw at Punjab United today.
Warren Mfula netted another hat-trick for the ‘Ites’ while Billy Bennett and Dean Grant each scored twice in a 7-1 home win over Deal.
Chatham went to in-form Punjab United hoping to confirm promotion with a win but they could only earn a point as Paul Vines scored in the first half for the hosts before Lekan Osideko levelled late on.
At the other end of the table the fate of Tower Hamlets looks sealed as they fell to defeat against Tunbridge Wells and Rusthall won at K Sports.
Hamlets are now 11 points behind the third-bottom Rustics and only have 3 games left to play meaning they are sure to finish in a relegation spot, with the only question left being who will join them.
Lordswood’s loss at Glebe today puts them as favourites for that spot but with Rusthall’s run-in looking particularly tough, this race is far from over yet.
Elsewhere in the Division we saw 1-0 wins for Holmesdale and Kennington and a 2-1 victory for Erith & Belvedere at home to Bearsted.
The other two games finished all-square as Canterbury City came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Crowborough Athletic while Fisher and Hollands & Blair drew 3-3 in an entertaining clash at Salters Lane.
