VCD Athletic 0-1 Phoenix Sports

 

Phoenix Sports sealed promotion to Step 4 thanks to a last minute Ryan Hayes penalty against local rivals VCD Athletic.

The nerves were clear to see in the first half as neither side created anything of note.

The second half however was full of action though and most of it coming from the Phoenix attack as first Ryan Sawyer had his header come of the bar before Tashi-Jay Kwayie missed a glorious opportunity to put his side ahead.

Kwayie then thought he had given the visitors the lead but was offside, leading up to the drama that was to decide the game.

Deep into injury time, substitute Andy Pugh was brought down, giving the referee no option but to point to the spot, from where Ryan Hayes dispatched the kick to send the away fans into delirium

With little time remaining Phoenix were able to run down the clock and as a result swap places with VCD in their respective Divisions.
