Sheppey squad takes shape

Sheppey United have kicked-off their 2021/22 Season squad reveal by announcing the signings of 3 new players.

“Our 1st signing is striker James Jeffery.” yelled the Club Twitter account.

“JJ” impressed whilst playing as a trialist, scoring against Sittingbourne and Margate. The hardworking forward, formerly with Chatham & Margate was an instant hit with the Ites fans who’ve now got their wish to see him sign permanently.”

“Our 2nd signing is Taurean Roberts.”

“In winger Roberts the Ites fans can expect to see a powerful player who will run at fullbacks and chip-in with assists as well as goals. Roberts started with Crystal Palace’s academy and most recently played at Harrow.

Roberts would go on to grab a couple of goals in the friendly on Tuesday night at Larkfield & New Hythe.

“It’s a hat-trick of announcements as we confirm pacey winger Kane Phillip.”

“Kane, who started against Faversham at the weekend was has been with Ebbsfleet, Folkestone, Herne Bay, Sittingbourne and Hythe Town.”

“After 5 seasons at Cray Valley central defender Ashley Sains has decided to join Sheppey United.

Sains has played for clubs such as Lordswood against the Ites, and his style is described as an “old school” centre back.”

“Next in is Ben Wilson!

“Ben has played for a number of clubs including Ramsgate, Ashford Utd, Hythe Town & Sevenoaks Town. Ben’s a versatile player who can operate across the back or play as a winger – and this flexibility has been shown during the pre-season campaign.”

“Arriving at Holm Park is Danny Smith.”

“Danny is a left back who started with Everton’s academy and also played at Lordswood before having a successful spell with Cray Valley – experiencing the same titles and success as Ashley Sains, including a FA Vase final appearance at Wembley.!

Michael Hagan is next in!

“His previous clubs include Corinthian, Cray Valley, Punjab United, Chatham Town and Faversham Town. Naturally a two footed winger, Hagan’s attributes include pace and a good eye for goal.”

Liam Northwood started with Charlton Athletics’ academy from U9s to U15s. Following that Liam spend a few month at the Arsenal academy before joining Maidstone United’s U23s.

“During his time with the Stones he trained regularly with the 1st team and before the covid pandemic he had a spell with Kent Football Utd Liam has started between the posts for most of the preseason and at Larkfield he kept a clean sheet & assisted Taurean Roberts 2nd goal.”

“Young left winger De Niro Pinto has been part of our pre-season campaign, and was named as a starting trialist against Margate. He has also made a few substitute appearances. De Niro Pinto was previously with Maidstone United last season.”

“Attacking midfielder Billy Lewins has been involved in most of our pre-season campaign, playing as a trialist. Catching the eye of our management team with assists at Sittingbourne and Margate was enough to convince the Ites to offer a deal. Billy has also played at Canterbury City, Sittingbourne, Hythe and Lordswood.

“Forward Luke Carey played as a trialist against Sittingbourne and scored in our 2-1 win. He’s had a good footballing education having been with Charlton Athletic from U9s to U23s, including a year on a pro contract. Carey also had a brief spell at Margate.”
