Second bite at the FA Vase cherry for Bridon Ropes
Bridon Ropes will get a second shot at FA Vase glory after their first game conquerors Epsom & Ewell FC have been penalised for playing a suspended player in their 20th September tie.
The ‘Salts’ won that match 4-0 to set up a Second Qualifying Round match with Langney Wanderers this weekend but that has been cancelled as the Ropes game will be replayed.
Epsom & Ewell explain the events in this statement here:
“Regrettably Epsom and Ewell FC must announce that our FA Vase match against Langley Wanderers scheduled for the 10th of October has been postponed.
It transpires that in a previous round against Bridon Ropes we fielded a player who was suspended following a sending off in Sunday Football Epsom & Ewell FC were completely unaware of this situation.
In view of the circumstances, the F.A has shown leniency and have kept us in the competition, although they have stated that the original tie against Bridon Ropes is to be replayed.”
That game is now looking to take place on Tuesday night, the 13th October, meaning Ropes scheduled League game at Holmesdale the following night has had to be postponed.
If Bridon Ropes were to win this rescheduled tie then it will be them that take on Langney Wanderers next weekend with the League match at home to Kent Football United then postponed.
