Chatham Town have announced the signing of former Gillingham man Luke Rooney.
The Midfielder joins the Chats following recent spells at Beckenham Town and Welling United having previously played in the Football League for the likes of Swindon Town, Luton Town and the Gills. Between 2016 and 2018 he played for American side Phoenix Rising, alongside the likes of Didier Drogba and Shaun Wright Phillips.
Last season Rooney was a key player in a Beckenham side that were top of the Premier Division table when the campaign was brought to an early end. He featured 25 times for Becks, scoring 6 times but will now join a side competing against them for one of two promotion places in offer.
Rooney made his debut for Chatham tonight in a friendly against Millwall u23s which finished 2-2. They begin their league campaign away at Erith & Belvedere following an FA Cup tie at East Preston on 1st September.
