League leaders Ashford United started the day on the same points total as second placed Crowborough – 89 with a plus-13 superior goal difference, and cruised to the title with a 7-0 win against Rochester United while the Sussex side drew 0-0 at Hollands & Blair.
Shaun Welford was the main man for the hosts and he started the scoring in the 15th minute with a left footed strike that went under goalkeeper Michael Elder’s body.
One of his trademark long throws then made the second for Dan Stubbs six minutes before half-time, before the turning point of the afternoon followed seven minutes after the break.
Welford went down in the box under the challenge of defender Aaron Burrett – who was sent off for his second yellow card. – then the striker stepped up to send Elder the wrong way.
He had a part to play in the fourth as well, Jason Goodchild crashing home, substitute Ryan Palmer’s trickery earning him the first of his two, five minutes later.
Welford hit the sixth, before Palmer added the seven with a minute left to give Ashford the 3 points that saw them lift the league title.
In South London, Fisher hit double figures against fellow strugglers Erith Town with Luke Haidorovic scoring a hat-trick in a 10-1 win.
Andy Irvine got 2 of Sevenoaks Town’s 4 against Croydon, Jason Thompson netted a last minute winner for Cray Valley at Sheppey United and Deal Town were 4-1 victors at home to Tunbridge Wells.
Bearsted were the only other winners on this last day of the league season with the second of Reece Collins’ double at Beckenham being a last minute winner.
