New Drivers at the Trams wheel

Croydon FC will start the new year with new Managers in the dugout.

Following Antonio Gonnella’s departure last month, Wayne Bullen has led the side – but after 6 successive defeats another change has been made and Croydon have raided SC Thamesmead for a pairing they hope will lead them to promotion.

A club statement reads;

“Croydon FC are delighted to confirm that Ryan Watts and Alex White will be joining us as joint managers.

Ryan in particular has a long-standing connection with the club as a distinguished former player and Alex’s father has also represented the club!

The pair made an impressive application for the job at the start of the season, and although we went in a different direction, we are excited to welcome them on board at this stage.

We would like to place on record our thanks and admiration for Wayne Bullen who took the reins at an incredibly difficult time and gave us total commitment and loyalty. We are hopeful Wayne will remain within our club in some capacity. Not least because he has his very own song!

Having recently experienced losing our manager to a rival team, we understand the frustration SC Thamesmead and their supporters may be feeling, but we will always act in the best interests of our club and ever-loyal supporters.

“Onwards! Ding Ding”

Ryan Watts used his social media to explain the decision to switch between SCEFL Clubs.

“Alex and I have decided to step down as SC Thamesmead first team managers. It is the hardest ever decision I have had to make in football and one that we have toiled over and has torn us apart at times. We cannot be more thankful to Lee and Sam for the opportunity given to an untried and untested management duo.

To build from 0 players to having a remarkable 3-month unbeaten run in the league is something we will forever be proud of. All that has been down to hard work and support, which we cannot thank the fans, players, and committee enough for all their efforts so far this season.

“We leave with heavy hearts and we will always have very fond memories of our time at the club and wish everyone involved nothing but the very best. Sometimes in football, unexpected opportunities arise, and on this occasion, it is one we felt we had to take as hard as that is.”

Coming in as SC Thamesmead will be Reece Parara – former boss at Holmesdale.
