MNF – Greenways 6-1 Lydd Town
Charlie Bradford wrote this Match Summary for Non League Chronicles.
Greenways took 18 minutes to break Lydd down when a free kick from the left was hung up towards the penalty spot and saw Andy Pierce come up with a looping header into the top right corner.
Seven minutes later and it was 2-0 to Greenways when Simon Walton got played in and through on goal and he chipped the ball over the head of the barrel chested Lydd goalkeeper and saw team mate Jake Lovell tap the ball home from bang on the goal line.
Four minutes later still and it was 3-0 when Jack Jeffrey took aim from just over 20 yards with a free kick and his effort found the top right postage stamp.
Greenways continued to keep their foot on the pedal and were awarded a penalty in the 32nd minute following a clear trip on Sam Harris on the left side of the box. Simon Walton stepped up and made no mistake in slotting the penalty into the back of the net.
After a floodlight failure at half time which saw free agent Barry to the rescue and with a half time rollicking no doubt still ringing in the Lydd’s players ears, they came out the traps the better of the two sides in the second half and were awarded a penalty in the 51st minute following a trip not too dissimilar to Greenways’ penalty earlier in the game. Brad Baker stepped up to take it and made no mistake from 12 yards out.
Just over a minute later however and Greenways restored their four goal cushion when a ball across from the right found Sam Harris in some room on the edge of the box and he calmly tucked away his shot into the bottom left corner.
After Greenways got some pot shots away and Lydd’s left back got sin binned in the dying minutes, Greenways hit six in the 87th minute when a ball across from the right was tucked into the bottom right corner by Farai Maganga to complete a one sided shellacking.
FT: 6-1 and cue a mad dash back to East Malling train station.
MOTM: Simon Walton (Greenways) – got himself a goal and looked tricky.
