Groundhop 2023

 

This weekend sees our second official Groundhop take place with SCEFL and ‘GroundhopUK’ joining forces to bring you a festival of football.

The six games will be based towards the Centre and East of the Kent with each fixture chosen to try and replicate the entertainment brought last time to the combined attendance of over 2,000.

It all gets underway on Friday with a visit to Lordswood, takes in Rochester, Faversham and Whitstable on Saturday and ends on the coast at Lydd and Deal on Sunday.

On Friday night we kicked the groundhop off with a game between Lordswood and Corinthian.

It finished 1-1, with James Jeffrey’s 80th minute penalty levelling a Jamie Billings first half opener.

The crowd of 324 was an 18 year league record for Lordswood.

Saturday’s fun began at 11am in Rochester United and it was the hosts that won it thanks to a last minute Harrison Hume goal against Faversham Strike Force.

Attendance was 279.

Premier Division leaders Faversham Town maintained their position at the top after winning 5-2 at home to Hollands & Blair.

Stefan Payne scored twice for Faversham, with Kieron Campbell, Ashley Miller and Ollie Gray also on target. Dean Grant claimed a late double for Blair.

Attendance was 563.

Saturday’s action closed out on the coast and a tight match between Whitstable Town and Bearsted.

Whitstable took the honours with Josh Oliver and Harvey Brown scoring in a 2-1 win, watched on by a crowd of 682

It was down to the coast on Sunday Morning when last season’s two promoted First Division sides clashed, and it was Lydd Town who took the honours, beating Snodland Town 2-0.

A crowd of 295 saw first half goals from Charlie Dickens and Charlie Webster.

The Groundhop climatised in Deal with Kennington the visitors to the Charles Sports Ground.

Goals in either half from Tom Chapman, then Ben Chapman, led the hosts to a 2-0 victory in frony of 535 spectators.
