With Clubs having just found out their opening League fixtures as well as early FA Competition opponents, excitement is growing for the season start – which is now just 3 weeks away from us.
Preparation for it is intensifying and today we had around 30 warm-up matches featuring our clubs. They gave us winners and losers and as ever, plenty of goals.
The most of which came at the Bauvill Stadium with Chatham Town and Punjab United sharing 10 but the hosts coming out as comfortable winners. Star of the day was clearly Josh Strouts who scored 4 for the Chats in a 7-3 win.
Other big scorers were Glebe, where Jamie Philpot scored 3 of their 8 against Epsom & Ewell and Deal Town, with Alfie Foster setting The Hoops on the way to a 6-0 victory at Hawkinge Town.
Jordan Samuels was on the scoresheet as Sutton Athletic hit 5 at Fleetdown, while Tom Axford hit a double as Faversham Strike Force beat Kings Hill.
There was also a nice 5-2 win for Lydd Town at Ide Hill while Staplehurst Monarchs came from 2-down to beat Bexhill United 3-2.
It’s never nice to lose but there were positive performances for our sides in defeats to higher level opposition.
Bearsted went down 2-0 at home to Maidstone United, which included an Alfie Pavey opener and Sheppey United got pipped 2-1 by Margate. Kent Football United were edged out 2-1 at Herne Bay and K Sports lost 5-2 in a home game against Ramsgate.
Canterbury City lost 3-1 at Sevenoaks Town and Rochester United got hit for 6 by a strong Ashford United team.
Welling Town had a heavy loss too at Edgware Town as did Hollands & Blair, returned from Tilbury FC as 6-0 losers.
There were narrow defeats elsewhere for Croydon, Westside and Stansfeld while in an early evening kick-off Cray Valley Reserves beat Meridian VP 4-2.
In the all-SCEFL games Snodland Town were 2-0 winners at home to Erith Town, Tunbridge Wells beat FC Elmstead 3-1 and Rusthall came out best in a 5-goal thriller with Lewisham Borough.
Holmesdale visited Tooting Bec and thanks to goals from Nathan Palmer and Owen Punselie won 2-1 against our new First Division arrivals.
Of those to draw, Kennington kept a clean sheet at Hythe Town, Larkfield & New Hythe shared the spoils with Cuxton and Fisher finished all-square in what sounded like a dull encounter with Peckham Town.
There was 3 penalties and 3 goals a-piece as Tower Hamlets drew at Hoddesdon while Crowborough Athletic were heading also for a draw until a well timed winner from Eastbourne Town.
A busy week of friendly fixtures continues on Tuesday.
