FA Vase

Corinthian v Hebburn Town

Corinthian saw their Wembley dream crushed after being knocked out of the FA Vase semi-finals in a penalty shoot-out against Hebburn Town.

After a goalless first half Corinthian took the lead soon after the restart when Oscar Housego scored from the spot following a foul on Andres Tobon.

The visitors were reduced to ten men later in the second half yet rallied well and earned their own penalty in the final few minutes, from which Graeme Armstrong scored.

That brought along another 30 minutes of play and with Hebburn gaining the momentum they took the lead thanks to an Armstrong header.

Corinthian were not dead and buried yet though and following a foul on Emmanuel Oloyede the resulting penalty was dispatched by Jamie Billings.

In a game of 3 penalties it was no surprise that this tight match would need more to decide the eventual winner so off to a penalty shoot-out we went.

Unfortunately it was to be the Northern League side that progressed following two missed efforts from the Hoops.

Heartbreak for Corinthian in the cruellest way but they should be proud of their great run through this competition, their time will come again.

They have done themselves and the league so proud.

The other FA Vase semi final saw Consett beat Bitton 1-0 in Extra Time.
